Bermuda Shorts #1

This was sent first thing in the morning on 5-16-08:

Well, we're off -
We had planned to get out of Atlanta yesterday around 9am, but, as usual, the best laid plans and all that. . . . . After a lovely start off breakfast at the local McDonald's and then off to pick up my car from the shop and then heading back home for our passports, we finally got out of town around 11:15. It was a rather uneventful drive over to Charleston (South Carolina) - we got here around 5pm. A small rest after checking in at our hotel and then off to find a Wal*Mart. I believe we've been to Wal*Marts in maybe millions of places and they're still fun to visit when away from home. This one even took our U.S. $$$ without having to change to the local currency!!!! LOL
One big mistake, I left Ben alone for a while and he purchased a new travel alarm clock. This one has several different alarm sounds and, this morning, we awoke to the sound of a rooster crowing!!! Note to self: KILL THE CHICKEN!!!!
Our friend Doreen is coming in a little while to pick us up and take us sightseeing. We've been to Charleston quite a few times before, but she should have some fun things for us to do. And, just being with Doreen is fun, too. And, tonight we get to go out to dinner with Doreen and her husband Jerry. I love to get together when we have Ben and Jerry. Makes you really want some ice cream!!
Forgot to tell you about dinner last night. We went to a place that Ben found on the internet. It was called The Wreck. . . and it was - a wreck, I mean!! It was formerly a bait locker for the local fishermen. Thank goodness they had gotten rid of all the old bait smell. Anyway, it was old and primitive, all the tables and chairs were mismatched, the food was served on paper plates and drinks were served in the original can or plastic cups, there was just a big piece of butcher paper on the table for a cloth. When the meal was over, the waitress removed the few pieces of silverware and rolled everything else up in the butcher paper and threw it away!!! Must be really low overhead there! But, the food was delicious. We really enjoyed it. There was even a square of fried hominy (kind of like fat grits) on the plate which I had made my mind up not to like. I love grits, but I've never been a fan of hominy. But, it was pretty. . . .well, it was pretty okay, I guess. Not terrible at all.
So, a good time was had by all and now it's time to get ready to start a new day's adventure.
